Two water boreholes for Dassanesh communities
During our various projects in Ethiopia, we have always been struck by the difficulty of access to drinking water for tribal populations. We therefore decided to focus on this sector for our 2024 project.
On the border between Ethiopia and Kenya, the populations targeted by this project live on the northeastern shores of Lake Turkana, which has its own delta and 15% of its surface area in Ethiopian territory. In addition to the bacteriological nests that the warm waters of Lake Turkana represent, they have become salty due to evaporation over the years, making them totally unsuitable for consumption.
Adding to this already precarious situation, the semi-arid region we support through our actions is notably the site of droughts prolonged by climate change. The result is major water stress, which we hope to alleviate through this project.
We are focusing on this hamlet of around a thousand people, whose unsanitary conditions are exacerbated by increasingly harsh climatic conditions. This clean water point will enable them to stabilize their living conditions and drastically reduce the infant diseases currently caused by the only perennial source of water, the waters of Lake Turkana.
May 2024
Fundraising
After a period of project development at the beginning of 2024, and a trip to the site to assess the possibilities, the fundraising dossier has been completed, and we're starting the search for funds.
April 2024
Development of the project
On a mission to Ethiopia in April 2024 to inaugurate the operating theater in Omoraté and define future projects, For Equity members witnessed the region's difficult access to water.
It was therefore decided that the 2024 project would be the construction of one or more wells, depending on financial and practical possibilities.
